Ways to Keep your Vehicle Running Smoothly this Season

Sunday, November 22, 2009 by Colleen McGinley
Mr. Jack Frost is right around the corner and tis the season for stalled car, icy roads, and stranded motorist. Winter driving can be tough on cars and their owners. Yet motorists can survive the hardiest circumstances by taking the steps listed below. Check out this tip for safe driving from eHow.com

1. Brake, accelerate and turn slowly. Keep plenty of distance between cars. You never know when you will hit an icy spot.

It is tempting to drive as you would in regular driving conditions, especially if you are a new driver in snow. However you cannot forget to remember the Indy brake rules. Please use your Indy brake to slow down before you turn. This will keep your vehicle from flipping. Remember it can happen to you!

1. Pump the brakes slowly and gently if your car lacks antilock brakes. If you start to skid, let up on the gas and the brake, then shift into neutral. If your rear wheels are skidding, turn smoothly in the direction you want to go. If the front wheels are skidding, avoid steering until the car slows enough for the tires to regain traction.

Indianapolis Wiper Blades need to be Fresh in the Winter

Saturday, November 21, 2009 by Colleen McGinley
Having proper Indianapolis Wiper Blades are a key component in driving in the winter. If your blades are dull and old then you will not effectively be able to see out your window and we all know the hazy conditions that arise when slush is being spattered on your windshield.

Do not risk your safety and the safety of others because of faulty blades!

1. Make sure your windshield wipers and defroster are in good repair and that your washer reservoir is filled with antifreeze washer fluid (not all washer fluid has antifreeze capability). Keep snow and ice from accumulating on windshields, windows, rear-view mirrors and headlights (see related eHow 'Remove Ice From Your Windshield').

We have seen it tons of time. We will ask people if they have good Indianapolis Wiper blades. They will tell us that they are OK because they do not want to pay at that moment to have them replaced. Then a couple days later they will be back in asking for us to repair them, which we are happy to do. It seems as though people often underestimate the importance of Indianapolis Wiper blades. When slush flies onto your windshield it is one of the only things that will keep your windshield clean.

Why should you use Nitrofill?

Friday, November 20, 2009 by Colleen McGinley
Why should you inflate your tires with Nitro Fill?

Compressed air is your tire’s worst enemy and at Quick Lane, your Tire Center Indianapolis, we want to offer you nothing but the best! Air is about 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% other. Nitrogen is inert, non combustible and non corrosive. Oxygen, on the other hand, is immensely destructive to rubber and other tire materials. As soon as a tire is manufactured and exposed to air, the effects of “oxidation” begin to deteriorate the rubber. Over time it loses its elasticity and strength, just like an old rubber band you’ve probably found around your home. This same process occurs in tires inflated with air as the oxygen attacks the rubber molecules, working from the inside out, until the oxygen, and it destructive properties, permeates the tire structure and ultimately the tread.

1. Regularly check tire pressure in frigid weather. Tires lose roughly 1 pound per square inch of pressure with each 10-degree temperature decline. Never reduce tire pressure in an effort to increase traction in snow, ice or mud.

We cannot express it enough....
YOU NEED TO KEEP CHECKING YOUR TIRE PRESSURE IN THE WINTER!

Our tire center Indianapolis is more than happy to check your tire pressure anytime you bring your vehicle in. It does not matter whether or not you are looking for Indianapolis Wiper blades or wanting nitro fill, we will check the pressure for you! We will keep you safe!

What does your Fuel Filter Do?

Thursday, November 19, 2009 by Colleen McGinley
Wonder exactly what the purpose of your fuel filter Indianapolis is?

Your Fuel Filter is like a little strainer that sifts particles of dirt and junk or rust that might be in your fuel tank or pumped there from the gas station, so that your engine only gets clean fuel and the fuel injectors won't clog. After a while it will get clogged up with all this stuff and you'll need to change it out, which is pretty simple to do. Stop by with no appointment to get your filter changed today!

1. Be sure your tires are adequate for whatever climate you live in. For most regions, all-season tires with plenty of tread are adequate, but mountainous and northern places often call for snow or studded tires.

Bring your vehicle into Quick Lane. We have one of the best Tire Shops Indianapolis has to offer. We will fill your tires with Nitro fill which will ensure you have the best possible traction for the season.

Signs of Bad Brakes

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 by Colleen McGinley
Looking for Brake Service Indianapolis?
Our Indy Brake Team Can Help!

If you have disc brakes, there is a metal "wear strip" that begins to squeal as a warning that the discs are close to being worn out.  Of course, if you notice difficulty in bringing the car to a stop, that is a sure sign that it should be looked at by a mechanic.  The brakes should not be allowed to get to the point that they make a grinding noise when applied.  That will damage either the brake rotor or the brake drum, depending on the make of car, and can add considerable additional cost.  The wear parts on disc brakes can be replaced fairly easily and inexpensively, if they are replaced before damage is done to the rotor.  The rotor is the round shiny thing you can see in behind the wheel on some cars.  Again, depending on the kind of car, the symptoms of brake wear are noise, squealing, then grinding, and if the wear has gotten excessive, the car will pull to one side with a grinding noise. Hope this helps.  The longer you let it go, the more it will cost.

1. Make certain your battery is holding an adequate charge, since batteries are less efficient'and engines more demanding'in cold conditions. Your mechanic can use a meter called a 'load tester' to simulate the effects of cold-weather starting and determine whether the battery is adequately charged.

Indianapolis Brake Rotors

Saturday, November 14, 2009 by Colleen McGinley
Indianapolis Brake rotors are an important component in the braking system that stops your vehicle. Brake rotors (they're also called brake discs) are what your vehicle's brake pads clamp down on to stop the wheels from spinning. Some people may be surprised to learn that the brake rotors are just as important to stopping their vehicle as the brake pads are. Like other brake parts, there are several different types of brake rotors available. We'll take a look at a variety of them throughout this article -- pointing out the strong points and drawbacks of each along the way.

Give your battery, belts and hoses some love Indianapolis!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009 by Colleen McGinley
On September 19, 2009, the Todays' Show Laura T. Coffey published an article titled, "Stuck with a Clunker? Keep your motor running."  In lieu of today's economy I really wanted to share this article with you. It enlightened me on several preventative measures you can take to keep your car running. Each day I will share a new tip! Enjoy!

Your car battery Indianapolis is one of the most important aspects of your vehicle. Show it some love. Come in today to get it checked before the winter season. Your Car Battery Indianapolis isn't the only thing you should have checked. Remember to get your Indianapolis Brake Replacement today before the ice hits the roads! www.qlane.net

9. Give your battery, belts and hoses some love. Check to see that your battery’s posts and connections are corrosion-free and that your battery has all the water it needs. If your battery is more than three years old, have a certified repair shop test its ability to hold a charge. If necessary, invest in a new battery. Also, have your vehicle’s belts and hoses examined for wear and tear regularly. Failure of a belt or a hose is the most common cause of a roadside breakdown. Cost to have battery, belts or hoses inspected: Free. Cost of battery replacement: $150. Cost of replacement of belts and hoses: Up to $250 or more, depending on what needs to be done.
